Antibiotic Substances Separated from Sumac.

چکیده
It has become evident (Osborn, 1943; Lucas and Lewis, 1944) that higher plants are potential sources of antibiotic agents. Several investigators (Little and Grubaugh, 1946; Atkinson and Rainsford, 1946; Sanders, Weatherwax, and McClung, 1945) have reported antibiotic effects of juices and of crude extracts of plants on various microorganisms. The active materials can be separated in some degree of purity (Cavallito, Buck, and Suter, 1945; Cavallito, Bailey, and Kirchner, 1945; Heatley, 1944), and there is evidence that the agents so obtained can be introduced into the animal body and will control experimental infections (Carlson, Bissell, and Mueller, 1946). In screening several hundred plants (Carlson, Douglas, and Robertson, 1948) the authors observed that a species of sumac contained an antibiotic agent extractable in aqueous solutions. In later work this or similar agents were obtained from sumac by extraction with ethyl ether. It is the purpose of this paper to report the antibiotic activity of partially purified extracts from a species of sumac, Rhus hirta.

Studied Chinese herbs on Helicobacter pylori
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) are a bacterium implicated in the etiology of stomach cancer and ulcers. Epidemiology of the antibiotic resistance of H. pylori appears to be higher. The study was to screen an efficiency substance of Chinese herbs, which could be used in preventing and treating H. pylori diseases. A total of 40 extracted efficiency substances from Chinese herbs were examined and...

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ecological factors and the distribution of rangeland habitats of Sumac shrub (Rhus Coriaria L.) and to determine the range of changes in effective environmental factors to interpret the best distribution of Sumac habitats in Khorasan Razavi province within the heights overlooking Khanik Valley in Brakuh , Kalat district of Gona...
متن کاملSUMAC: Constructing Phylogenetic Supermatrices and Assessing Partially Decisive Taxon Coverage
The amount of phylogenetically informative sequence data in GenBank is growing at an exponential rate, and large phylogenetic trees are increasingly used in research. Tools are needed to construct phylogenetic sequence matrices from GenBank data and evaluate the effect of missing data. Supermatrix Constructor (SUMAC) is a tool to data-mine GenBank, construct phylogenetic supermatrices, and asse...
متن کاملEffect of sumac extract on serum oxidative status, RANKL/OPG system and alveolar bone loss in experimental periodontitis in rats
OBJECTIVES Sumac (Rhus coriaria L.) is widely used spice which has several properties such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. The purpose of this animal study was to evaluate the effects of sumac extract on levels of receptor activator of nuclear factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL), osteoprotegerin (OPG) expression, serum oxidative status, and alveolar bone loss in experimental peri...
متن کاملتأثیر ترکیبات فلاونوئیدی حاصل از کروماتوگرافی ژل فیلتراسیون عصاره گیاه سماق(Rhus coriaria L) بر اکسیداسیون LDL
Introduction: LDL oxidation by forming and growth of the fatty plaques on the walls of endothelial is an important event in atherogenesis. Sumac plant are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids compounds, with antioxidant effects that inhibit the LDL oxidation could inhibit atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of flavonoid components sumac extract by gel filtration chr...
